Built to Move Training

Who I Help

I work with individuals who want to rebuild strength, improve mobility, and feel confident in how their body moves. Many of my clients are adults focused on staying active, preventing injury, and maintaining independence as they age. I work with both men and women, with a strong focus on helping clients return to movement after periods of inactivity, stress, or life changes..
Programs are designed specifically for each individual’s goals, fitness level, and physical needs.

Training Philosophy

My training approach focuses on functional strength and mobility, movements that support real life activities like walking, lifting, balancing, and maintaining healthy posture.
Rather than extreme workouts, training is designed to build sustainable strength, improve mobility, and support long-term joint health.

Where Training Takes Place

Training is designed to meet you where you are, making movement a natural part of your everyday life:
• In-home personal training (in your home)
• Outdoor training (local parks and green spaces)
• Community / neighborhood spaces
• Your neighborhood gym or residential fitness facility (where permitted)
• Virtual coaching options available
Serving the Charlotte, NC area
Focused on Ballantyne, Marvin, Waxhaw, NC & Indian Land, Fort Mill, SC.

About Laura

Laura is a personal trainer with over a decade of experience helping others improve their strength, mobility, and overall movement quality.
As a mom of three, she understands the real-life balance of family, health, and everyday responsibilities. Her passion for helping others is rooted not only in her professional experience, but in her own journey.
After spending years in a sedentary role and going through a cancer diagnosis that left her severely deconditioned Laura experienced firsthand how it feels to lose strength, confidence, and connection to your body. Rebuilding from that place shaped her approach to training and deepened her understanding of what clients truly need.
She is passionate about helping others rebuild strength, move with confidence, and feel strong in their bodies again—no matter where they are starting from.
Outside of training, Laura values her faith, time in nature, and being with her family. She enjoys hiking, mountain biking, strength training, painting, gardening, and cooking. She is continually learning and expanding her knowledge in health, wellness, and movement to better support her clients.

Why I started Built to Move

My belief in the importance of strength and movement grew from seeing how quickly the body can lose both when movement is removed.
After years in a sedentary role and experiencing my own period of significant deconditioning, I gained a deep appreciation for how essential consistent movement is—not just for physical strength, but for everyday life, confidence, energy, and overall well-being.
Rebuilding that strength reshaped my perspective and reinforced my commitment to helping others do the same.
Built to Move was created to help people reconnect with their bodies, rebuild strength, and move with confidence in their everyday lives.

Training Program Structure & Assessments

All training programs are organized in Google Sheets and shared with clients via email. Clients are encouraged to track and document their progress as they complete workouts on their own.

Jackson-Pollock 7-Site Skinfold Measurements

This optional assessment is performed every 4–6 weeks to track changes in body composition. Using calipers, measurements are taken at seven areas of the body to estimate body fat percentage.
This provides a more detailed view of progress beyond the scale and helps guide training and nutrition decisions.

Movement Assessment & Posture Snapshot

The movement assessment is the starting point for all training. It allows me to evaluate how your body moves, identify imbalances, and understand your current strength, stability, and mobility.
This process includes observing foundational movement patterns such as squatting, hinging, lunging, pushing, and pulling, along with a brief posture snapshot.
The goal is not to find “problems,” but to understand how your body moves so we can train safely, improve movement quality, and build strength in a balanced and effective way.
Why It’s Important
• Identifies strength and stability imbalances
• Highlights mobility restrictions
• Improves exercise technique and body awareness
• Helps reduce risk of discomfort or injury
• Creates a personalized starting point for your program
Ongoing Progress
Movement patterns and posture are continually observed and refined throughout training as strength, control, and confidence improve.

Full-Circle Goal Setting Approach

Goals → Assess → Plan → Train → Track → Reassess → RepeatGoals are approached through a full-circle lens, recognizing that progress is influenced by more than just workouts.
This includes movement, nutrition, recovery, daily habits, stress, and overall lifestyle. By considering all of these areas, training becomes more effective, sustainable, and aligned with real life. Rather than focusing on one factor alone, this approach supports the body as a whole to improve strength, energy, and long-term results.
What This Means for You
• Training is personalized to your lifestyle
• Adjustments are made based on energy, stress, and recovery
• Progress is measured beyond just weight or appearance
• The goal is sustainable, long-term change — not quick fixes
